Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor DayHappy Labor Day everybody! Almost everyone imagines barbecues and sun when they think about today, and why wouldn’t you! Summer is coming to close. School is about to begin (if it hasn’t already). You want to enjoy the last few days of this wonderful season while it lasts! But there is so much more about this holiday that people tend to forget.

Tik, Tok and Wak gets it (well, mostly Tik and Tok). This day celebrates the worker and how they helped build this nation. They persevere and put in the hard effort necessary to make those great works that we value so dearly. So while you are enjoying that grilled treat and before you wash it down with your favorite beverage, give a little toast to the worker! Odds are, you are standing right next to one!

I Haz Pins!

I Haz PinsI haz pins! Actually, I have quite a lot of pins and I will be taking them with me to Gen Con! Do you like web comics? Do you like pins? Going to Gen Con? Hopefully you’ll spot me, because I don’t have a booth or anything like that.

I will however be once more helping out at the 8th annual Wig’n’Stache charity pub crawl! The Wig’n’Stache raises money for Gen Con’s official charity partners. So if you want to do some bar hopping Thursday, August 2nd, and support a local charity in the process, head on over to Union Station, go down the stairs to the Iron Horse at 9pm, and join us on the crawl. There are prizes to win… and you can get one of these pins!

If a pub crawl is not your style, you could still get a pin. I will be wandering about the convention so you might run into me somewhere. Possibly. It is a very big place and I am a bit of an outsider right now when it comes to the web comic industry. I will do my best impression of a carnival barker to drum up some attention. And if I have a bunch of pins left over (which is highly likely) I might make them available through the website.

Web Comic Directories

by Michael Scotta on July 19, 2018 at 9:11 am

I have been reading web comics for a very long time. I want to say that I started reading them when they first became a thing on the world wide web. Web comic directories have been around for almost as long, but I’ve never really utilized them. Sure, I’ve visited one on occasion whenever I was looking for something new. However I usually just clicked the comic links on the sites I followed. As a reader, I just didn’t see any value in it.

As the creator of a web comic, that has changed. This wasn’t a big deal with my first endeavor, Your Comic’s Weak, but that was geared to a select crowd. Leaving the pond and diving into the deep waters demands promotion for this small gobo, leaving the cave for the first time. So, I’ve spent some time and set up accounts on the following web comic directories: Comic Rocket, The WebComics List, Top Web Comics, and WebcomicsHub. If you happen to utilize one of these sites as a source of your web entertainment, you may now find Gobo Gazette there!

Please note that the links provided should take you directly to the comic’s page on those sites. This is intentional in a number of ways. First, it will allow you to quickly add Gobo Gazette to your reading list or mark it as a favorite. Second, it should allow you to vote for the comic. I specifically mean Top Web Comics, although the method is still arcane to me. Lastly, and most importantly, there are web comics out there that are NSFW. I know, right? Well, some of their banners are a bit risque, and I would prefer to protect any younger readers. If you happen to be one, talk to a responsible adult before going anywhere else on the directories.

Don’t forget that there is also the Facebook page, Twitter account, Instagram page, and RSS feed. If you have not yet followed, liked, and/or rated Gobo Gazette on these, please do! By doing so, you can expose the web comic to so many more viewers.

Thank you!

Happy 4th of July

2018 4th of JulyHappy 4th of July to all of the Americans out there! Setting the historical significance aside, independence never was so good! Big barbecues, outrageous outings and gregarious gatherings! Beach bashes, pool parties and summer spectaculars! And at the top of the list: fireworks displays! It looks like both Tik and Tok have the right idea, although it probably isn’t the smartest thing to be lighting rockets off of helmet candles.

Before sparking up your very first firework, make sure that you are ready for the absolute worst. Safety should always be first for all of you amateur fireworks launchers (which is mostly all of us out there). Honestly, bad things can happen to those that mishandle explosive items… or get too close to them! You don’t want to spend the holiday in an emergency room, or missing some fingers!

Your best bet for enjoying the evening is to step right back and watch the light show. Leave the fabulous flashes and the big booms and blasts in the hands of the professionals. There is nothing like colorful explosions choreographed to music, classical and classic rock. Besides, that will leave them both empty for something even better… a beverage and a burger!

Happy Father’s Day

2018 Father's DayHappy Father’s Day to each and every one of you dads out there! You don’t have to dress up each morning in a suit and tie like Bam to be a big deal for your kids. You don’t even have to be bring home the bacon… the little ones will give you a chew no matter what! I hope today will be a very special day for you and your father. Did you have something planned before the big day? Maybe hit a diner for some grub and then a trip out to the lake for fishing? Or perhaps 18 holes of golf (either on the course or on a game console)? Even if you are just going to wing it, make sure to show your dad a good time. And if you can’t be with him in person, find some other way to let him know you care.
