“Patrol Call” Just a magical recap, Puccini has a number of mystical effects in play. The spell he will be recasting is a detection spell. He has been using to help track down his missing black stone (first seen here, and last seen here) . He and the gobos have been quaffing an elixir that allows them to understand languages, but not speak them and the gobos have been (trying) to keep their voices down so that others don’t hear them talking in gobospeak. Apparently, the locals are not friendly to goblins. Puccini has also been casting illusions on his companions, disguising them as gnomes. And finally, he has a natural connection with his homunculus, Whiskit. Not only is there a telepathic bond, Puccini can communicate through Whiskit, although it appears that Puccini needs to choose between focusing on that or keeping his detection spell running. Whoa! That’s a lot of links!
Be careful out there.
Under the cover of night, Puccini and his companions slowly walk down a snow-covered alley. Near the entrance, the wizard holds his cloak tightly closed as his free hand is held up in an arcane gesture. Next to him is Hob and Wak, both wearing warmer clothes. Hob's surcoat now has a mantle upon its shoulders and both it and the bottom edge are fur-trimmed. The sleeves of the white blouse underneath are longer and gloves are worn to protect Hob in the colder climate. Wak is wearing a kubanka - a cylindrical fur cap - and a heavy cloak, all gray in color. Far ahead of them and nearest the viewer in a close up shot is Pōk, who is sporting a scarf. All the gobos appear to be gnomes, disguised magically by Puccini's spell.
Whiskit, offscreen telepathically: "Nob is calling."
Puccini, thinking: "Can this wait? We are almost done with our patrol."
Whiskit, offscreen telepathically: "Not really."
Panel 2
The view changes to a closer overhead shot of Puccini and Hob. The wizard's fingers loosen and he turns his focus down to his companion. The other hand has let go of the cloak and settle's on Hob's shoulder, which draws the gobo's attention upward.
Puccini: "Hob..."
Hob, whispering: "<Yes?>"
Puccini: "Nob calls."
Panel 3
Puccini's hand raises and then lowers into the waiting gloved hand of Hob in a close up shot...
Puccini: "I'll recast my spell after my report, but keep looking, everyone. We still have time on the potion and... effects."
Panel 4
...before pulling back to show Puccini, Hob and Wak. With eyes white and his free hand slightly extended, Puccini lets Hob guide the wizard while he focuses on beginning his telepathic meeting. Hob and Wak's eyes scan the area as they move forward, looking for anything unusual.
Puccini, thinking: "This is Puccini."
