Is It Christmas Time Already?

by Michael Scotta on December 25, 2019 at 7:00 am

2019 ChristmasWhy yes, it is Christmas time! Time to wake up and open up all those presents! Do you watch The Mandalorian? Let me, ask that question another way. Have you been on the internet lately and have even a passing interest in Star Wars? If so, then Christmas time came early for you! It can be fun opening up your gifts early but some like to be surprised so, other than the image on the left, I’ll leave it a secret. Those of you in the know will get Bam as the Child. And, for those of you who don’t, well, you should check out The Mandalorian. Even if Star Wars isn’t your thing. Or you’re a fan of Kozure Ōkami.

As in the past, the last Friday of the year is a little present to me: a brief respite before jumping back into the fray that is known as web comics. (Okay, I only update once a week so it is not that much of a fight. More of a disagreement, really.) So there will be no comic this week. But come back on January 3rd for the next installment of Gobo Gazette and see what happens next to our dirty dozen!

Until then…

Merry Christmas

It’s Thanksgiving Time!

2019 ThanksgivingThat’s right! It’s that special November Thursday where everyone fills up on fine food and finer company! It is Thanksgiving time! And, as it says in its name, it is a time to look back at what we have and give thanks for it. Seems easy enough, right? Just go to your big chain grocery store, load up on all the goods, and then cook it up. Sure it may take some time to prep and get everything ready, but you’ll have help. And there will be plenty of socializing as things warm up, both in the kitchen and on the television as the big game kicks off.

But what if it wasn’t so easy? What if, say, you had to personally hunt down, forage, or cultivate all that food yourself? As Fip is learning here, turkey hunting isn’t a sure thing. Those birds can get ornery (at least from what I hear). And what if we were to cut out all the tech? Forget freezing that fowl for later, you have to get that all cooked before it spoils. It would be difficult to reach out to others without a phone, or even make it in a timely fashion without our planes, trains, and automobiles. And entertainment would be word of mouth, not fourth and goal. So when you are giving thanks on Thanksgiving, try thinking about what it would be like without when you are being thankful for what you have.

Inktober 2019

by Michael Scotta on October 1, 2019 at 7:30 am

InktoberInktober 2019 will be the second Inktober for Gobo Gazette. It will be the third Inktober I participated in overall. Some of you might be asking, what is Inktober? Well, you can go right to the source for the full description and rules. But if you want a quick summary of what I’ll be doing it is this: I will be doing black & white inked, gobo-related artwork, one on each day of October. That is a total of 31 images throughout the month!

And how can you see these images? Well, for a look at most of my first run during Inktober, check out the album on my personal Facebook account. Just as stated in last year’s post, the art for Inktober 2019 can be seen on Gobo Gazette’s Instagram page. I know I mentioned something about moving the images to an art gallery page. Right now, I feel that doing so would be rather redundant, and that Instagram is a good home for them for now. Besides, I would rather have a locations page – or, better yet, fan art/guest comic page – before I had a gallery.

So check out the Instagram page each day for a new image and, as always, each Friday for a new comic. (Things are starting to heat up as we come to the close of another year!)

Snake Gorge Raiders Added to Cast Page

by Michael Scotta on September 18, 2019 at 3:24 pm

Snake Gorge RaidersI do believe that I may have misspoke in an earlier article. A few weeks turned into half a year. But, since they have made a return appearance in one of the most recent comics, the Snake Gorge Raiders have been added to the Gobo Gazette cast page. Unlike the Party of Adventurers™, the Snake Gorge Raiders will have only one entry… for now. And although there are nine pictured, there are a few more to come. As mentioned soon after their first appearance, these characters are based on those from an earlier, short-lived comic. These, in turn, were based on some of my friends. Except for their leader. He is based on something completely different.

Now this is the time I would normally announce that I will be updating the cast again or developing a locations page really soon. My track record for this has not been the best so lets instead state that I will get to those when I get to them. Instead I want to remind everyone that October is right around the corner and that means it will soon be time for Inktober! That’s right! Next month, I will be inking 31 drawings. One for each day. I will post an update on October 1st. See you then.

Take a Break from Labor

by Michael Scotta on September 2, 2019 at 7:00 am

Break From LaborHappy Labor Day! It’s that time again for an extended weekend were one can take a break from labor and get one last barbecue in before it gets cold. That’s what Labor Day is about… right? Well, that’s holidays in general really. Labor Day in the U.S. and Canada is the day celebrating all the workers that have worked hard to make the wonderful things that we sometimes take for granted. It also celebrates the unions that came about to make sure they were treated fairly. Back in the day, there were too many fat cats about. (Actually, I think the cat population hasn’t changed… they just got sneakier at getting to the cream.) So, if you’re a laborer or somebody that busts their butts all year round, raise a glass of your favorite beverage. Cheers!

And speaking of those that need to take a break from labor, it looks like there are five gobos that need a rest. At least when they moved Krak, it was to fulfill a purpose. Our crowned gobo needs to take a step back from Ego Land. Hopefully, the rescue attempt that is happening in the comic will get you back on course to Gobo Land!
